Digital Audio Over UHF Systems
We made the decision to switch all our Shure Analog UHF systems (SLX and ULX) over to Shure's new Digital over UHF units that have been released in the last few years (SLXD, QLXD and ULXD). We will never use 2.4gHz systems - WiFi band need I say more!
Why?
- to ensure that we are able to offer our clients the best available technology at any given price point
- it was getting increasingly difficult to get more than 16 channels of ULX and SLX to "play nicely" in almost all metropolitan markets - and in some even that was a challenge. With more and more requests for 20, 24 or even 32 channels we need to ensure we had a reliable solution.
- in 2020 we got rid of all 120 of our Shure ULX systems and added more QLXD systems to replace them.
- in 2021 Shure released their SLXD system and discontinued the SLX - so we again bit the bullet and replaced our SLX inventory (~200 channels) with the Digital over UHF SLXD units.
- simplicity ... the digital systems allow us to network the receivers together and together with the on board software these systems can find the necessary open frequencies on their own, and when networked all the receivers on the same band will also populate with available frequencies - all at the push of a few buttons

SIMPLE and COMPLETE:
We have done most of the hard work associated with renting multiple channels of wireless systems. We use industry standard 19" equipment racks to mount the receivers.
- we add antenna distributors - no more antenna farms
- we cable the RF outputs of the distributor to each receiver
- we cable the DC power from the distributor to each receiver
- we add a network hub and short Cat 6 cables to each receiver
- we use custom made 6-8ft XLR-XLR looms - plugged into each receiver with a fanout to plug into your mixer
- a single power lead (usually) is all that needs to be plugged into a live 110v power socket
Average setup time is less than 15 minutes including rescanning for local available frequencies.
Why the Network Hub
We install a network hub to link the receivers together. This allows the units to communicate with each other - now a single group frequency scan will assign available non-interfering frequencies to the entire rack in a single pass. Usually takes less than 2 minutes.

Creative Audio CA.81 UHF System
Creative Audio Technology CA.81 wireless system is a high quality analog wireless system similar in quality to the Shure SLX or ew100G3 series except the 8 receivers are in a single 1u high rack mountable case - in believable packing density.
