  • Wireless Microphone Receiver
  • Wireless Microphone Transmitter
  • Bodypack Microphones
  • Production Hanger for transmitters
  • Neoprene Sleeve for Hanger
  • Antennas (and distributors?)
  • All RF cabling
  • All DC cabling and power supplies
  • XLR-XLR  audio loom
  • Roadcase as selected
  • Hardware - cable ties, rack screws etc

Your system can be built into a rack of your choosing, from simple timber studio racks through to fully ATA compliant roadcases, SKB rotomold case, Gator rolling rack bags, our low cost polyethylene molded cases or even el-cheapo ABS cases - you choose.  We will even fit everything into your case!

We fit all our systems with simple rack-mounted power strips and power the receivers from 1 or 2 common power supplies rather than a single wall wart per receiver.  This saves  a lot of space and weight.

There is a pile of

possible options

Antennas

Bodymics recommends systems from:

  • Audio-Technica
  • Creative Audio
  • Sennheiser
  • Shure

Whether you want to spend a little or a lot we can find a features vs. performance vs. cost compromise to suit your budgets.

Our standard systems are based on bodypack transmitters, but we can supply handheld transmitters either instead of or as well as bodypacks.

Wireless System

  • Choose Brand
  • Choose Model
  • Choose frequency band (important if you are using it around other existing wireless systems)
  • Choose # of receiver channels
  • Choose # of bodypack transmitters
  • Choose number of handheld transmitters and type (if relevant)

  • Cooling Systems
  • Handheld transmitter microphones
  • Longer Looms
  • Directional Antennas
  • Power Conditioners
  • Uninterruptible Power Supply

Above all else we strongly suggest that any racked up system must have the antennas mounted on rack panels near the top of the rack.  This gives much better RF pickup than antennas buried inside a rack.

Bodymics also manufactures passive antenna splitters plus we sell those from the major brands - these halve your antenna count with little signal loss.

If you want to further reduce the antenna count, we can install active antenna distribution systems.

Audio Output Loom

  • loom or connector panel
  • if loom, length (standard is 10')
  • Termination at mixer end (standard is male XLR)

Rack

  • Size - how many spare rack spaces do you want over and above those needed for receivers, dividers and antenna mounting
  • Do you want a rolling case
  • What style - ATA, plastic, studio timber, studio steel, wall mounted steel.

  • Choose antenna type - whips, paddles, active, passive

Up time.

If your system will be powered up 24/7, or will be used outdoors for extended periods in the summer heat ... allow for a few extra rack spaces to allow for better heat escape - put a 1u vent panel between each space of receivers.  Also derate any power supplies by 60% instead of our recommended 40% - these get hot too!  Maybe add force air cooling fans.

Receiver Location vs. Stage

If you will locate the receiver rack more than 100ft from the center of the performance area, then it is advisable to use directional remote antennas.  If mounting the remote antennas more than 50ft (coax cable length) from the receivers, it is best to use active antennas or place inline RF amplifiers at the antenna to drive more signal to the receivers.

Transportation and storage

Will the rack be stationary, used throughout the one facility or transported to multiple remote facilities.  This affects the case choice, wiring standards, whether it is better to split a large system into smaller modules.  We commonly build modules of 4 or 8 channels - self contained for antenna distribution, and linked together if all are used together.

One implementation for a 24 channel system was built as 3x 8 channel blocks with active hybrid antenna distribution so each rack only needed 2 antenna inputs for diversity reception.  One of the three had an extra active antenna divider so that s single pair of paddle antennas could feed all three (4) racks.  The client could then use whatever best suited the activity and since he had to move it around the town he was in, he could easily carry the pieces in his small hatchback - try that with a 5ft tall rack with a full set of receivers, antenna distribution boxes and storage drawers!!

Racks and Power

Other Considerations

About our racked ready to use systems.

We take all the worry and hassle out of building your system - you tell us what you want and we build it.  Choose brand and model of wireless systems, microphone brand/models, what sort of rack you need, preferred power, mic storage and antenna options.  Essentially we charge you for the major items at internet prices - receivers, transmitters, microphones, antenna distribution, antennas and upgrades to roadcases.  Then we build it, provide all the cabling (including an XLR/XLR loom), storage sleeves for microphones and transmitters, and any necessary hardware.

The calculator below will give you the cost based on choices you select based on prices as of June 15th, 2020.  Since we all have our own ideas of how our rack should look, you can request any other options you would like, plus tell us how you would prefer the units racked.
